All Roads Lead to Joplin
June 7th 2012 - |
First and foremost we'd like to formally thank everyone for their support throughout the months leading up to, and during, All Roads Lead to Joplin. From people in attendance to those advocating for our cause and sharing our message, it is because of you that we have a success story to tell. As a thank you, we'd like to share with you how your support and contributions made a difference to the Joplin community.
Last year, an EF5 tornado hit Joplin, MO destroying much of the city, and Store #323. What may have discouraged some, brought the fight out among all Speedco teammates and united us as family. Instantly, a plan to rebuild and re-open Store #323 was put into motion.
On May 17-19 Speedco hosted All Roads Lead to Joplin that included a grand re-opening of Store #323, Shell Rotella's SuperRigs truck beauty contest, a community volunteer day, a free concert, a truck parade and fireworks.
The Shell Rotella SuperRigs had 74 working trucks compete in divisions such as "Best of Show," "Tractor," "Tractor/Trailer," and "Classic" Thursday through Sunday. Friday, the trucks lined eight blocks downtown with a parade and light show for the community.
In addition to the events occurring with SuperRigs, Speedco spent time giving back to the Joplin community. On Thursday, May 18, Speedco teammates gathered at Cunningham Park to plant trees that contributed to the living memorial of the 161 lives lost in the tornado last year. In total, Speedco planted 94 trees among two park locations. Later that evening, everyone celebrated with free concert performances by Joplin native, Kenny Foster and a cover band from Chicago, Maggie Speaks, featuring guest artist, Chassidy.
Friday was the much anticipated grand re-opening of Store #323. Mark Clark, CEO of Speedco and Greg Kyte, General Manager of Store #323, cut the ribbon, officially re-opening this location. Store teammates also autographed the beaten and bruised Speedco sign that was recovered after the tornado and will remain on display.
All Roads Lead to Joplin was collaborative effort from everyone at Speedco, our partners and the community. Not only was this event purposed to celebrate Store #323's grand re-opening, it was also a way to serve the city of Joplin. As members of the Joplin community, giving back and helping rebuild was an essential part of this event.
Through the support of our teammates and partners, Speedco proudly presented a check for $100,000 to the YMCA's outreach program, Human Services Campus (HSC). This organization is a collaboration of 40 agencies that offer a variety of free tools and resources to assist those who have been affected by the tornado. In the spirit of giving and helping others, SuperRigs "Best of Show" winner, John O'Keefe, donated his $10,000 winnings to HSC as well.
Speedco is proud to be a part of the Joplin community once again and are extremely thankful that our teammates have incredibly big hearts for both Speedco and our community. Additionally we'd like to thank our partners for making this event a reality: Shell Rotella, Bridgestone, Fleetguard, Lucas Oil and Chrome Shop Mafia. THANK YOU!
